Silicone Rubber Cable Information

Difference between FEP fluoroplastic cable and silicone rubber cable?

Difference between FEP fluoroplastic cable and silicone rubber cable? Both FEP fluoroplastics and silicone rubber can be used as wire and cable jacket materials, and they have their own typical material characteristics. If under high temperature, such as continuous rated temperature of 200 ℃, what is the difference between FEP fluoroplastic (fluorinated ethylene propylene copolymer) and silicone rubber insulated cable? Which material is better for the same purpose?

silicone rubber cable

一 、 Comparison of FEP fluorine plastic wire and cable and silicone rubber insulated wire and cable
1, silicone rubber is more resistant to high temperature, FEP fluoroplastic cable will melt when high temperature
FEP fluoroplastics are thermoplastics and will melt again when exposed to sufficiently high temperatures. Silicone rubber is a thermosetting material. Under the action of a heat-activated catalyst, a stronger chemical bond can be formed in its molecule. When exposed to excessively high temperatures, silicone rubber will carbonize or degrade into very fine powders. This fundamental difference is very important in determining whether the wire and cable products can be used in extremely high temperature or flame environments. The plastic insulation layer installed in the pipeline and on the cable tray will melt and drip on the structures and equipment below, which requires expensive cleaning costs or replacement. Silicone rubber, on the other hand, is only carbonized into powder in high temperature or flame environments, and it is easy to remove and replace.
2, FEP fluoroplastic cable has higher hardness, cut resistance and wear resistance than silicone rubber cable
FEP fluoroplastic is harder than silicone rubber, and its ultimate tensile strength is twice that of silicone rubber. Can improve the cutting resistance and abrasion resistance of the product. FEP fluoroplastics are both stiff and rigid. FEP insulated wire and cable are wound on a reel and then released again, and will maintain the original ring shape when it is rolled into a package. Silicon rubber insulated wires and cables are the opposite. It is very soft, has no memory of shape, and is suitable for occasions with repeated bending.
3. Application range of FEP fluorine plastic wire and cable and silicone rubber insulated wire and cable
From the perspective of electrical performance, these two materials are good electrical insulation materials. FEP is more suitable for transmitting high-frequency AC signals, because FEP can be extruded into the thinnest insulating layer, which can reduce signal loss, increase transmission rate, and extend transmission distance without using amplifiers. In contrast, silicone rubber insulated wires and cables retain their capacitive charge for a long time. In addition, in terms of moisture resistance, FEP fluoroplastics are moisture-proof, do not absorb moisture, and even if the insulation thickness is thin, moisture will not penetrate into the interior. Silicon rubber, like many electrical insulation materials, absorbs a small amount of moisture and enters the structure through the insulation layer.
